“You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.”
Houston singer and uke player Fred Lowery – the Mad Man of Maui – performs in and around Texas.
Fred’s life-long passion for music took an unexpected turn during his first trip to Hawaii. Having received his first ukulele from his brother a short time earlier, Fred spent mornings playing on the patio of a rented Maui home overlooking a golf course. The enthusiastic reaction of golfers pausing at the tee box to listen inspired him to take things to the next level, and the Mad Man of Maui was born.
The Mad Man mixes a broad range pop, rock, country and blues tunes spanning several decades with the occasional original. He loves surprising his audiences with songs they might not associate with the ukulele. There’s a method to the madness: the smiles of recognition, singing along and spontaneous dancing that leave audiences happy and entertained.
When not performing as the Mad Man of Maui, Fred sings and plays rhythm guitar and harmonica in Kirby and the Kruisers. He also sits in with other area bands, such as Runaway Radio.
